Just kidding. I was raised here in Sonora, California by a seamstress/secretary and a mechanic/car salesman/insurance agent. I grew up in the garage with my dad and watched him rebuild his 1928 Ford Model T Roadster. We went on Rod Runs and to car shows. I owned 16 cars before I was even 16. The best ones I never even got to drive, like the 69’ Mustang Fastback that I spent months sanding in the driveway. I also worked summers in my mom’s sewing and alterations shop. She had me make my own clothes and gave me haircuts in the backyard or “Orphan Annie” style perms in our kitchen. Can you say, “Character building”? I rode dirt bikes and went to superbike races. My family worked hard and laughed all the time.
When I graduated high school I went straight to work. I started out as data entry on our first computer…..Yes, I said the first computer. I became a licensed Property & Casualty agent in 1993 and worked as a personal lines agent until 1995 then I transferred to commercial lines. I took some time off to get married to a really cool guy and have two amazing children. Seriously though, my family is amazing. They are my nucleus. Together we love traveling, good food, boating and are huge San Francisco Giants fans!
I am a second generation insurance agency owner. I have been the President/CEO of Sonora Insurance Agency since 2004. My staff is the extension of my family. We work hard and laugh a lot. I always tell them that family comes first, insurance second and I try to make all my customers feel like family.
I have called Sonora my home since 1974 and I now raise my 2 daughters here in the community that I love so much. My husband and I believe in healthy eating and exercise and raise our daughters with those beliefs. If you are in downtown Sonora you may see us out jogging! If so, say HI!
We attend St. Patrick's and love those Ice Cream Socials!
I am so excited to be working here at Sonora Insurance Agency! I am the smiling face behind the voice when you first call in. Everyone tells me what a happy energetic individual I am and I always do my best to make sure every customer feels at home.
I moved from San Leandro to Sonora in 1995 to be with my husband. I immediately took a job as a life and health agent thinking that I would do this until I could find something better. I found out that I love my job and have continued in the industry. I have been with Sonora Insurance Agency since 2001 specializing in Life and Health Insurance.
I consider myself blessed to not only have been raised in Tuolumne County but to have been a part of a family that has run a business in our community for over 36 years. My love of the outdoors took me to Northern Nevada for a while where I obtained more experience in the insurance field. During my time in Reno and Carson city I specialized in commercial lines insurance and became licensed in both Nevada and California in property and casualty insurance as well as life and health . I decided to move back to California after the birth of my son so that I could raise him in and around my family, and the people, and gorgeous surroundings that are so dear to my heart. I truly love working in the insurance field because it allows me to help protect and be a part of so many people’s dreams, from their businesses to their homes, and being able to do that in the area that I love for so many people that have helped me along my path over the years has made this a truly fulfilling chapter in my life.
Working for a family-owned business is something that many people in our community take a lot of pride in and I can relate. My Grandfather Buzz McCown opened Sonora Insurance Agency back in 1987 and my mom took it over in 2004. Coming to the office and watching her work was a huge part of my childhood and now as an adult I have the privilege of working alongside of her. I graduated from Arizona State University in December of 2020 and like many young adults who stepped into the work force in the middle of a global pandemic I was unsure of what my next steps would be. Even with a B.S. In Political Science and a Minor in Anthropology I wasn’t sure which career path was right for me. Luckily I was presented with the opportunity to work for a business I am familiar with and help a community that I love so much. I currently reside in Scottsdale, Arizona, and work in our small office we have here while also frequenting our Sonora office when I am back home with family. The past year and a half working for SIA has been such a blessing and I am excited for me future with the company.
I attended Menlo College, where I was a student-athlete competing in wrestling, until I graduated in December 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Business with a Major in Finance. After graduation, I moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where I had a few jobs, including bartending and sales, until May of 2020, when I started working for Sonora Insurance Agency in the Accounting Department. I was trained and mentored by Elaine Rosteck until she retired at the end of 2020. Since then, I have been running our accounting department. Growing up, I never knew that I wanted to work with my family, but doing so has made me very happy and proud that I can put my degree to work while being around my favorite people. I continue to live in Arizona and work in our Scottsdale office alongside my sister. One of my favorite parts about working in a small community is interacting with our regular customers, most of whom I’ve known since I was little. They make the day fly by and leave a smile on my face.
